Bedford's flat roofs are on the back of the Victorian terraces, where a century of kitchen and bathroom extensions have been built one behind another with flat felt roofs at different levels, and on the garages and single-storey extensions of the post-war suburbs. We take the whole thing back to the joists where the deck is soft, re-deck with OSB3 on firrings that give a real fall, insulate where the room below is heated, and finish in felt, GRP or EPDM with the upstands, drips and outlets done properly. GRP is our usual recommendation for the multi-level terrace extensions because it seals the changes of level in one skin; felt or EPDM for garages.
