Leighton Buzzard is a sand town: the quarries around Heath and Reach supplied the country, and the old town centre and Church Square are built in the local ironstone and sandstone with clay plain tiles and slate above. Those roofs are steep, valleyed and often have several chimneys, which means lead, and a lot of our Leighton Buzzard work is chimney flashings, valleys and plain-tile repairs on the older streets off Lake Street and Hockliffe Street.
Linslade across the Grand Union grew up around the railway with Victorian terraces in slate, and then both sides of the town filled in with 20th-century estates in concrete interlocking tiles, from the 1960s houses around Plantation Road to the big new developments at Chamberlains Barn, Clipstone Park and Sandhills. New-build roofs bring their own problems: dry verges that have blown off, ridges that were never fixed properly and flashings finished in mastic.
We come out along the A505 through Dunstable and cover the villages either side: Heath and Reach, Stanbridge, Billington, Eggington, Hockliffe and Tilsworth in Bedfordshire, and Wing, Soulbury, Stewkley and Great Brickhill just over the Buckinghamshire border.
