The fascia is the board along the edge of the roof that the guttering hangs on. The soffit is the board underneath that closes the eaves. The barge boards run up the gable. On most Luton and Bedfordshire houses they are the original softwood, and once the paint fails they rot, the gutter brackets pull out, and birds and wasps get into the roof through the gaps.
We replace the roofline properly. The old boards come off, the rafter feet are checked and the eaves felt is replaced with an eaves protector so water from the roof runs into the gutter rather than behind it. New uPVC fascia and soffit go on, with over-fascia or soffit vents to keep the loft ventilated, then the guttering is re-hung with new brackets and outlets.
