EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) arrives as one sheet cut to the size of your roof, often with no seams at all on a garage or a rectangular extension. It is fully bonded to the deck with adhesive, the edges are dressed into metal or uPVC trims, and the upstands are formed with the same sheet or with pre-formed corners.
Because it moves with the building and is not damaged by ponding water or sunlight, EPDM suits roofs that are hard to get perfect falls on, and roofs that will be left alone for years. It is not the right choice where there is heavy foot traffic or a lot of complicated detailing, where we would steer you to GRP.

It lasts longer with less maintenance and has fewer joins. Felt is cheaper and easier to repair locally. On a simple roof that you want to forget about, EPDM is the better long-term spend.
Sometimes, if the deck is sound and dry, an overlay board can go on first. We inspect and advise. Usually the old felt comes off.

EPDM can be dressed up a lantern upstand and sealed. For roofs with several lanterns or rooflights we usually suggest GRP.
