Red interlocking tile re-roof, from strip to ridge

The stages of a full re-roof in red interlocking tiles: the old covering and felt stripped, timbers checked, breathable membrane and battens on, tiles laid and the ridge finished.

JobFull re-roof
MaterialsConcrete interlocking tiles, breathable membrane, new lead
AreaLuton and Bedfordshire

These photographs follow the order of a re-roof. First the old tiles, battens and felt come off and the roof is swept back to the rafters so they can be checked and any rot dealt with. Then a breathable membrane is laid and lapped, new treated battens are set out to the gauge of the new tile, and the tiles go on from the eaves up, cut and fixed at the verges, hips and valleys to the manufacturer's schedule.

The finished roof has new lead where it meets the chimney, a ridge bedded and fixed, and the guttering cleared of everything that came off. We photograph each of these stages on every re-roof so the customer can see the membrane and the lead before the tiles cover them.
